For four generations, the Mondavi family has nurtured the land of Napa
Valley with sustainable winegrowing practices, and Michael Mondavi
Family Estate continues to uphold the highest standards, working with
vineyards farmed using sustainable and organic practices, in order to
ensure a healthy and beautiful Napa Valley for generations to come.
Michael Mondavi Family Estates is both Certified Fish Friendly, and a
Certified Napa County Green Vineyard and Winery. With his son Rob
Mondavi, Jr. at the winemaking helm, along with winemaker Tony Coltrin,
Michael and his family craft a collection of world-class wines of
unsurpassed varietal character and balance.
Michael Mondavi is
widely credited with helping to establish and build the Napa Valley
wine industry as we know it. Drafted into the family business
immediately following his college graduation, Michael often spent two
thirds of the year traveling, promoting Mondavi wines and the Napa
Valley wine industry in general.
When Michael was eleven years
old, his grandfather Cesare Mondavi – who was also a California
winemaker – told Michael that his most important job was to leave the
soil in his vineyard in healthier condition than when he received it
from his father and uncle. That early advice has guided Michael’s
approach to winemaking and natural farming.
Michael Mondavi’s career began in 1966 when he and his father Robert co-founded the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley.
In 1999 Michael Mondavi, his wife Isabel and their two adult children
Rob and Dina, collectively purchased a plot of rugged Manzanita lined
land high on Atlas Peak and began establishing a vineyard, thereby
founding Michael Mondavi Family Estate. In 2004 they launched Folio Fine
Wine Partners. Both companies sprung from Michael’s strong belief and
vision – developed over decades of experience in the industry and – that
the best wines in the world come from family-owned and managed
After years of toiling behind the scenes as
both a winemaker and an executive, in 2008 Michael launched the first
wine that bears his own name, M by Michael Mondavi, a single vineyard
100% Cabernet Sauvignon from his own Animo vineyard, located at a high
elevation in the Foss Valley microclimate atop Atlas Peak in the Napa
Valley. The wine serves as a personal expression of Michael’s devotion
to Napa Valley, his family, and the art of fine winemaking.
Michael and his wife Isabel reside in Napa, near their children Rob Mondavi, Jr. and Dina, and their respective families.

Each month, Joe and our wine buyers handpick and create a mixed case of the best values in wines on the market. They choose some of our classic best-sellers, and new wines that we know are sure to become classics.
Copos Garnacha Tinto Red (Catalunya, Spain) A dry red wine, deep red cherry color verging on maroon. Aromas of fresh fruit, sweet spices and wild touches. In the mouth it is fleshy, potent, full-bodied, with mature tannins and hints of caramelized fruits. A great wine to serve with steaks or burgers.
Terra de Touros (Tejo, Portugal) Sweet, red berry fruits come through the firmer tannins. An unusual blend of Pinot Noir and Touriga Nacional, it has plenty of acidity, delicious juiciness and touches of wood at the end. It's not for long term aging, but ready to drink now.
McManis Cabernet Sauviginon (Lodi, California) Dark garnet in color with a bouquet that is full of dark berry fruit, such as blueberry, blackberry and black cherry. Oak aging has contributed just a hint of smoke to the nose. This round, creamy wine delivers an abundance of the fruit flavors as promised by the olfactory. The fruit and oak are well integrated and the complexity of the wine plays on the tongue long after the wine has been ingested.
Honoro Vera Rosé (Calatayud, Spain) Ripe and tropical fruit, melon, and soft berries with a bit of bubblegum. Light blush in color, it leans heavily toward watermelon on the palate. It is simple, but juicy and with just enough acidity. This pairs wonderfully with soft cheeses and fruits.
Ca Stella Pinot Grigio (Friuli, Italy) Pale golden in hue, with heady aromas of fresh fruit, crushed flowers and some notes of pear. On the palate, it is refreshing and vibrant, with ripe green fruit flavors, a touch of minerality and good acidity. Great with pastas and chicken.
Bel Creme de Lys Chardonnay (Central Coast, California) Slow down, exhale, and enjoy this rich, creamy chardonnay. The winemaker chose California vineyards that yield incredibly lush flavors of tropical fruit, baked apple and citrus. Sur lie aging gives this wine its soft, creamy style. Use of primarily French oak adds hints of vanilla and crème brûlée on the finish, making this wine the perfect reward at the end of the day.
